Woo-Jae Kim


Woo-Jae Kim is a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Ewha Womans University, South Korea and also a vice president of Ewha University-Industry Collaboration Foundation. He is engaged in interdisciplinary research activities on low-dimensional systems, i.e., carbon nanomaterials and catalysts, interfacing with chemical engineering and materials sciences, spanning nanoelectronics, renewable energy and biological applications.He is an expert in tailoring electronic and/or geometric structures of nano materials using surface reaction engineering scheme and have utilized the surface engineered nanomaterials to Energy, Biomedical, Nanoelectronics Applications. He is also actively working on the development of reforming catalysts capable of producing hydrogen from various renewable energy sources (biomass, food waste, used plastic) for the upcoming hydrogen energy era. In 2022, he became a director of the research center for low-carbon and green energy chemical processes of Ewha Womans University and led innovative and converged research on Carbon Neutrality.


김우재 교수는 이화여자대학교 화공신소재공학과 교수이자 이화여자대학교 산학협력단 부단장을 맡고 있다. 김우재 교수는 촉매와 탄소나노튜브와 같은 저차원 나노소재 개발에 대한 연구를 수행하고 있으며, 이를 신재생에너지 생산, 배터리소재 및 바이오나노 분야에 응용하는 연구를 수행하여 왔다. 특히 김우재 교수는 표면반응공학 기법을 사용하여 나노소재의 전자 및 기하학적 구조를 개선하고, 표면 개질된 나노소재를 에너지, 나노전자소자, 바이오공학 분야에 적용하여 왔습니다. 또한, 다가오는 수소에너지 시대를 맞아 다양한 재활용자원 (바이오매스, 음식물쓰레기, 폐플라스틱 등) 으로부터 이산화탄소 발생없이 친환경 적인 방법으로 수소를 생산할 수 있는 염기 촉매 개발에도 적극 나서고 있으며, 최근, 이렇게 생산된 수소와 이산화탄소를 결합, 다양한 고부가 화학물질로 변화시키는 탄소중립기술 개발에도 많은 관심을 갖고 연구를 수행 중에 있다. 2022년 부터 이화여대 저탄소그린에너지 화학공정 선도연구사업단장을 맡아 탄소중립에 대한 혁신적이고 융합적인 연구를 주도하고 있다.
